In any other body shop, the operator looks up the paint code and considers variations from a deck of color samples. After reading, find the correct mix, the operator pours up to 7 different tints into a cup. The ingredients are measured by weight. The operator tries to be accurate to one drop which is 20 grams of weight. Imagine mixing a cake batter with 7 ingredients and being accurate to one drop every time. That’s not realistic and the industry knows it.
That’s why PPG created Moonwalk. With PPG Moonwalk a computer-controlled system which reads your existing color with a light gun. The operator does not make a judgement about which variation is best. Moonwalk identifies the tints needed and uses its robotic system to actually mix the paint. There is no human judgement involved. Moonwalk is accurate to one gram, which is 1/20 of one drop. That means Moonwalk is at least 20 times more accurate than is possible with conventional systems.
The benefit to the vehicle owner is better color match the first time.
