A preparation bay is an isolated area where we apply primer and other coatings before the application of color. Proper preparation is important because if not done perfectly the paint will not be smooth and will not adhere over time. In a conventional body shop primer is dried with room temperature air. That process can trap solvents within the primer. Trapped solvents appear months or years later as flaws in your finish.
At White Hat Collision our prep bay contains the advanced FlyDry robotic system. FlyDry uses Infrared and UVA technologies which cure primers and coatings literally from the inside out. FlyDry eliminates the possibility of the primer not being completely cured. It also reduces our time by several hours which means your vehicle is done sooner.
DryKing – Symach spray booth where color and clear are applied.
Our DryKing spray uses technology not available in other collision shops. The quality of your paint finish is affected by air flow during application, temperature, humidity, air pressure in the spray gun, and other factors. DryKing uses a computer managed system to control all these factors and more. The system compensates for all those factors and more, all without input from the operator. Each phase of the application process requires a different temperature and volume of air. The DryKing computer does all this perfectly without input from the operator
The benefit to you is a smoother and more consistent color and clear coat finish.
KombiKing is the final stage of our paint application process. KombiKing uses Symach’s patented Infra-Red DryTronic technology to cure the color and clear literally from the inside out.
In any other body shop paint is cured with high air temperature, typically 160 degrees for 45 minutes. That high and sustained temperature is not good for the rubber parts of your car, and it certainly isn’t good for an electric vehicle’s battery. As hot air rushes over the wet paint surface, the outer portion is cured before the inner. Solvents are now trapped beneath the hard outer layer.
Because the outer layer cures first with hot air the process creates ripples in the paint. Those ripples are sanded and buffed out afterward. That is two small scratches that may not be visible for months or even years after your repair is completed. It can take months for the inner layers to cure which is why a vehicle often does not look as good a year after it was painted.
With KombiKing your color and clear coat are cured from the inside out in 10 minutes, not 45. As all layers are cured at the same time so finish remains perfectly smooth. Buffing is rarely required, and so much less invasive. With DryTronic your paint is now fully cured. The finish will not look any different a year later. These results are not possible with conventional systems in other body shops.
